Mytech Culture Experience January 2013

This month we would like to reflect on our December value of "Care and Share" by highlighting one of our Mytech team members who exemplifies this value every day – Leah Zapolski. For those of you who have had the opportunity to meet Leah this will come to no surprise to you. Leah started with Mytech in 2012 to take over a new position called Corporate Concierge and she has absolutely exceeded our expectations! For example if you have had a lunch meeting with any Mytech staff in 2012, there is a good chance that Leah coordinated it! Mytech also has a staff gathering on the last Friday of every month and Leah is the one who arranges all of the food, coordinates RSVP's and also ensures that there are treats for those who are able to have their kids join us. Leah is also in charge of our Culture Experience Wall, where every month she finds quotations, pictures and the occasional comic strip to highlight our respective value of the month and posts them on the wall. All of these initiatives have really seen there genesis in 2012 and Leah has helped define how these initiatives will be completed and has set the bar very high with regard to the excellence in which these tasks are executed. The reason that Leah is being recognized here is not because she does a fantastic job of ensuring all of the details described above are being completed, it is because of HOW Leah personally impacts the people with whom she works while completing those tasks that is being recognized!

"A smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside. "
- Denis Waitley

Leah emulates the words of Denis Waitley in everything she does. Just recently Leah had been out sick for a few days and there were several people around the office who felt that something was missing and even made comments to me that Leah's presence was missed. We are all thankful of her return to health and to our daily world which is that much brighter because she is here. I thoroughly enjoy walking into the office to see her bright smile and enthusiastic "Good Morning" knowing that she is there to take care of our staff, our customers, our vendor partners and future customers. If you have the great fortune of being able to speak with Leah in the future, please Care and Share enough to tell her thank you for her never ending smiles and the way she inevitably will brighten your day.

This newsletter marks the first edition of the second year of the Mytech Culture Experience column. We hope that you have enjoyed learning about our amazing staff and Mytech core values during 2012. We know that we are not perfect in our attainment of our core values, however these values are the compass that guides us and we continually strive to improve in our alignment. Mytech began the conscious effort to define our culture back in early 2011 when we purchased the book Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh for all of our staff and requested that they read the story about Zappos. For those of you who are not familiar with the book, the first half is about the growth of Zappos and the eventual acquisition of Zappos by; the second half of the book is how Zappos began to define their culture and reinforce their core values in everything they do all day, every day. Our goal at Mytech was not to BE LIKE Zappos, but to use the experience described by Tony as a catalyst to define Mytech's culture. The inaugural Mytech Culture Experience edition from January 2012 (Archived Link: describes in greater detail the timeline that led to the definition of our core values and our experience along the way. I have been very impressed with our team throughout the Mytech Culture Experience over the past two years and am looking forward to what the experience has yet to teach us in the future.

"Without a sense of caring there can be no sense of community."
- Anthony J. D'Angelo

When I think about what values and creating a culture are supposed to do, the quotation from Anthony J D'Angelo really stuck out to me by stating quite simply how our value of Care and Share pulls people together. Care and Share – seems simple enough, yet if we all took a little extra time to care more about the people with whom we live and work; share of ourselves, time, thoughts, sympathy and understanding, would we not draw people toward us instead of push them away? Would the experience of being in the same place (home or work) be more enjoyable and fulfilling? While it is merely a coincidence that Care and Share is the last of our twelve core values, it seems incredibly appropriate that Care and Share finish up the list because of the glue that binds the values together. Every other core value (find them all here: is made stronger by the simple alignment with Care and Share. The community of Mytech is made stronger by choosing to Care and Share. All of our respective relationships are made better and stronger by choosing to Care and Share. The Mytech Culture Committee demonstrated incredible vision by insisting that all twelve values be stated, standing steadfast in their conviction that ALL of the values have a place and that together they ALL define who we are. Care and Share while it may seem overly simple or "touchy feely" is the critical adhesive that enables our Mytech community to bind together as we journey on what we are calling the Mytech Culture Experience.

Here are some additional quotations and words of wisdom that were noted on our Culture Board that we are choosing to Care and Share:

"Trust in knowing that when a team member does push you, they're doing it because they care about the team."
- Patrick Lencioni
"From caring comes courage."
- Lao Tzu
"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded."
- Maya Angelou
"Three keys to abundant living: caring about others, daring for others, sharing with others."
- William Arthur Ward

Thank you for taking the time to read about a fantastic Mytech team member – Leah Zapolski and for being part of the Mytech Culture Experience. I invite you to please join the team here at Mytech on our Culture Experience, so that together we can work to "Care and Share."
