Mytech Culture Experience November 2013

This month we would like to reflect on our October value of "Reject Mediocrity" by highlighting one of our Mytech team members who exemplifies this value every day – Sam Moyer. We are very fortunate to have Sam on our team and if Sam is assigned to work on any of your projects you can be assured that he will make sure every detail is addressed. Sam joined the team in April of this year when Synergy Services and Mytech joined forces to increase our ability to serve our mutual customers. What I have learned about Sam in the last several months is that he is like the keel of a ship, he keeps us balanced and while many of his efforts go unseen, there is no doubt that he contributes greatly to the overall performance of the organization. Throughout all of his hard work Sam demonstrates our value of Reject Mediocrity by ensuring that details are not overlooked, areas of improvement are identified and quality is always assured. For Sam, Rejecting Mediocrity is part of the steady consistency of execution he exemplifies every day.

One of the unintended byproducts of our values is that they afford the ability for everyone in our organization to be a leader regardless of whether or not they hold a leadership position. To Reject Mediocrity in your daily interaction with your team, your family and your community is leadership. The challenge to evaluate the tasks you complete and the work product you deliver under the magnifying glass of rejecting mediocrity requires a discipline that is the foundation of quality and customer service. The positive impact you can have on all those around you by constantly challenging yourself to not take short cuts, or overlook poor quality will set them up for success and can inspire greatness!

Another side to Rejecting Mediocrity is to strive for something greater, to challenge yourself to accomplish something you do not yet know you can achieve. There is a common acronym in the business community called a B.H.A.G. (pronounced Bee-Hag) which is a Big Harry Audacious Goal. The concept of a BHAG would not exist if people all over did not choose to Reject Mediocrity and dream to achieve something beyond themselves and beyond what they know they are capable of doing. Status quo does not inspire people to action.

Mytech has a BHAG of being in 10 major cities in the next 10 years. We strive to have a positive impact on the customers we serve, the community in which we exist and the staff on our team. Our Mission is: To create success through a visionary approach to IT. In part, for Mytech, to Reject Mediocrity is to challenge ourselves to figure out how to "create success" for our customers, vendor partners, community partners and staff in Minneapolis and 9 other cities in North America. Our organization is on that path and we believe we can accomplish our BHAG through consistent execution of our Mission, Vision and especially our value of Reject Mediocrity. Finally, since we are a technology organization and there is an inner nerd/geek in all of us, please allow me to quote Star Wars.
