How do we inspire a thriving culture when the very nature of culture is forever changing? Culture is part of our every workplace regardless of whether we have defined what is important to the culture or not. Our clients, vendors and colleagues weave a complex cultural web with every interaction they make throughout each and every day. Left unfettered culture is a powerful tool that can either build up or tear down an organization.
So back to the original question of how can we inspire a thriving culture? I think that Michael Jackson’s 1987 song “Man In The Mirror” defines it perfectly.
"I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself, and then make a change"
Mytech as an organization has decided to make 2017 the year that we are going to take that look into the mirror to see what is reflected back to us regarding culture. We are soon launching an employee engagement survey for all staff that choose to participate. We hope that everyone that participates will embrace many of our values such as Direct and Open Communication, Care and Share and Practicing both Confidence and Humility. Our hope is to identify that we have a healthy and thriving culture, what organization wouldn’t? But we are well aware that we might be challenged as an organization to make some changes in the near future and be willing to listen to each individual voice that helps define our culture.
We all have the ability to impact our culture in a positive or negative way. Often times we just need to be aware of that fact and be intentional to protect the amazing culture we already have or start changing the destructive culture into the amazing culture that we all want.
